Indian entrepreneur revives his business during Covid with Alibaba.com

Story

Piyush always looked up to his father and wanted to be like him. After completing his studies, he joined his father to help him with the business. Soon Piyush realized that the company has been in a stagnant state for the past few years and the business was only catering to local needs through personal contacts of his father. He saw an opportunity and realized that they were not thinking big. The way to grow the business was to focus on new ways of sales and marketing and go beyond the borders. Coming from an internet era, he took the help of the internet to find some leads in other territories of India. Some early success gave him the confidence to take the next leap and think beyond the boundaries of India. That’s when he started looking for a reliable partner.

Solution

His quest ended when he came across Alibaba.com and was quite convinced that it was the genuine platform that could take his brand to the global audience and get him the desired business from abroad. However, the battle was not ended yet. The most difficult part for him was to convince his father to take the Alibaba.com gold membership. Piyush says with humor that he had to almost get the membership fees from his father as a loan. After taking the membership, he followed the footsteps of his channel partner TDI and started being continuously active on the platform to learn it all by himself. He started posting products (300+ products as of today), responding to queries and RFQs with >90% response rate. He also invested in arranging training for his entire team with the help of the Alibaba team to make them e-commerce ready. Slowly and gradually his rating as a seller started to peak and inquires started to pile up and convert into big orders.

Success

7 years down the line, Piyush claims to get 5-6 serious inquiries in 4 to 5 days, of which he covers a few into big orders regularly. His client base is such diversified that the yearlong Covid led lockdown in India did not impact his business a lot because Jagannath Polymers was continuously getting international orders which kept the factories running. During Covid time only, Piyush quotes his business to have grown 30% YoY. Today, Jagannath Polymers is spread across 15+ countries and aims to create more eco-friendly products in the coming days to contribute towards creating a better world for the next generation.
