Mian Muhammad Arham went to Yiwu, China to pursue language studies. That was his first encounter with the world of B2B trade as Yiwu is considered the trade capital of China. While interacting with traders, one name was ubiquitous when it came to international B2B export trade and the word was Alibaba.com. He completed his studies and moved to Malaysia for a while to help his uncle with setting up his e-commerce storefront as a seller in one of the premium e-commerce sites in Malaysia. Arham got hands-on experience of e-commerce and how to manage and grow in e-commerce as a seller. In 2016, Arham came back to Pakistan and with the support of his father, started a manufacturing unit of apparel products to sell in the domestic market. Only in a few months, he realized that the domestic market was very saturated, especially for a trade city like Sialkot and the margins were very less. The working capital he had was stuck in the business cycles and Arham could not manage to meet the ends and had to shut down his unit.
He tried many odd jobs and ideas in between and nothing seemed to work. It is during this research he decided to join Alibaba.com gold membership and utilize his already existing manufacturing set up to export to the world. FInally, in 2017, taking a loan from his mother for the membership fees, Arham started his export business with Alibaba.com.
After learning all about the B2B marketplace, Arham started using the platform to reach out to millions of global buyers looking for high quality apparel. Right after he set up his store front, the largest online expo in Alibaba.com “Super September” took place and suddenly his inquiries became 5 times and he got his first big order in September month only. Arham relies a lot on his product posting, response rate and replying to RFQ(request for quotation) to get and convert inquiries. When COVID-19 led entire Pakistan to lock down, Arham pivoted to focus on his ecommerce website.He was working day in and day out to grow his sales, get more products posted with high quality images. He, today, has more than 3500 products posted on his Alibaba.com mini site. According to Arham, “there is no ‘can I do it?’ or ‘should I do it?’ It’s a matter of how I can get it done.”
Bin-Naseer Import/Export Co. clocks a revenue of 3,0 million PKR per year and is a 100% export oriented company getting all the export orders through Alibaba.com. Today Arham’s business is spread across more than 10 countries and he takes immense pride in serving international customers with high quality Pakistani design and manufacturing. He is proud to represent Pakistan on a global arena through Alibaba.com and making sure that he brings export revenue to further grow his business and his country.
