Continuing the cooperation in the past years, Rwanda Development Board and Alibaba.com signed e-commerce cooperation agreement on February 27, the first batch of 20 Rwandan SMEs will onboard in Alibaba.com to start the digitalization progress.

As a country along the "Belt and Road", Rwanda signed a memorandum of understanding with China to build this incentive in 2018. In this context, Chinese enterprises have entered Rwanda. In the same year, Rwanda reached the cooperation with Alibaba Group to build eWTP (Electronic World Trade Platform) to export local specialties through the digital platform.

According to the latest memorandum, Rwandan enterprises will directly onboard in Alibaba.com and Alibaba.com will provide comprehensive e-commerce operation guidance and a full range of supporting services for Rwandan SMEs, such as shop design, trainings and counseling on how to work on Alibaba.com and how to use its advanced operation tools to help them to establish online stores, select suitable products and optimize store operations.

Zhang Entao, Deputy General Manager of Global Gold Supplier Department of Alibaba.com, said, "This cooperation will not only help Rwandan local enterprises to improve the sales and exports of their products, but also facilitate their digital transformation."

Before that, Rwanda's special chili sauce "Handflower Volcano Chili Sauce" have been listed on Hema, doubling the income of local pepper farmers. In addition, Rwanda's specialty coffee has also landed on Tmall Global, and local farmers can earn US$4 more than before for every kilogram of coffee sold. Also, the Rwandan ambassador also started to live-stream the goods. Chinese e-commerce experience continues to enter Rwanda.

Rwandan President Kagame once commented, "eWTP has opened up a new dimension of e-commerce for Rwanda and allowed Rwandan small businesses and farmers to sell their products to more consumers and increase their earnings."

Meanwhile, in terms of talent training, Alibaba Global Initiative (AGI) and Global Digital Talent Program (GDT) have trained 40 entrepreneurs in Rwanda in recent years and provided cross-border e-commerce training to six Rwandan universities, transferring Chinese digital economy experience to Africa.
