Southeast Asian keyboard exporters face a perplexing market paradox in 2026. According to Alibaba.com platform data, the overall keyboard trade volume declined by 12.85% in 2025 compared to the previous year. However, this decline occurred simultaneously with a significant increase in buyer numbers, with AB count (active buyers) growing by 21-53% year-over-year across different periods. This contradiction reveals a fundamental shift in market dynamics that requires careful navigation.
The root cause of this paradox lies in the severe oversupply that has plagued the market. By January 2026, the supply-demand ratio had skyrocketed to 121.14, meaning there were more than twice as many suppliers as needed to meet current demand. This oversupply has triggered intense price competition, particularly in the basic membrane keyboard segment, driving down average transaction values and overall trade volume despite increased buyer interest.
However, this oversupply narrative masks significant opportunities in specific segments. While basic keyboards suffer from commoditization, premium segments like wireless mechanical gaming keyboards are experiencing genuine supply shortages. The market is bifurcating into two distinct worlds: a crowded, low-margin space for basic products, and an underserved, high-value segment for innovative, quality-driven offerings.
