Our platform (Alibaba.com) data for the hand and arm protection category (ID: 202223010) reveals a startling contradiction that defines the current challenge for Southeast Asian exporters. On one hand, buyer engagement is at an all-time high. The number of active buyers (AB count) surged from just 94 in April 2025 to a peak of 967 in January 2026. Concurrently, the average number of inquiries (ABs) per product listing skyrocketed by 270% year-over-year, reaching 3.7 in the same period. This indicates a massive wave of global interest in sourcing these products from our region.
However, this surge in demand is not translating into revenue. Trade value for the category has experienced a dramatic 53.3% year-over-year decline. This creates a classic 'growth-value paradox': more people are looking, but they are spending far less. The most plausible explanation is a fierce price war in the most commoditized segment of the market: basic, low-cost disposable gloves. Sellers are competing almost exclusively on price, driving down margins and overall category value, even as the volume of interest grows.
