When you sell on Alibaba.com as a Southeast Asian textile manufacturer, one of the most common questions from international buyers is: "What certifications do you have?" The answer depends entirely on your product type and target market. This guide clarifies which certifications matter for garment accessories like braids, trims, and textile components — and which ones are often misunderstood.
The braid and garment accessories category has seen remarkable growth on Alibaba.com, with buyer numbers increasing 105.99% year-over-year and trade value up 13.63% in 2026. This surge reflects growing global demand for compliant, certified textile components. However, many sellers confuse certification requirements, leading to wasted investment or missed opportunities.
Certifications fall into two distinct categories:
1. Conventional Textile Certifications (for garment accessories, fashion trims, home textiles):
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100: Chemical safety testing for finished products
- GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard): Organic fiber content + environmental + social criteria
- GRS (Global Recycled Standard): Recycled content verification
- REACH: EU chemical regulation compliance (not a certificate you "get" — it's a legal requirement)
2. Medical Device Certifications (only for medical-grade textiles like surgical drapes, wound care materials, protective clothing):
- CE Marking: Required for Class II+ medical devices sold in EU
- FDA QMSR (Quality Management System Regulation): Required for medical devices sold in US, effective February 2, 2026
- ISO 13485: Quality management for medical device manufacturers
Critical Distinction: If you manufacture conventional braids, trims, or garment accessories (not medical devices), CE marking and FDA approval do not apply to your products. These are medical device regulations. However, some buyers may request them out of confusion — knowing the difference helps you respond professionally and avoid unnecessary compliance costs.
